最初のコンタクトはインスタグラムから。どこからかTANNUKIを見つけてくれて、インスタグラムアカウントをフォローしてくれたのをきっかけに、アルマンドは２０年以上ランニングを続けているランナーであることがわかりました。そして彼のサイトやインスタグラムを見ていただければわかりますが、とても雰囲気のある、美しく、静謐な作品を創るアーチストであることもわかりました。

Our first contact was through Instagram. He found TANNUKI somehow and started communicating with each other, which is how we learned that Armando has been a runner for over 20 years. And as you can see from his website and Instagram, he is also an artist who creates very atmospheric, beautiful, and serene works.

これまでもそうでしたが、ＴＡＮＮＵＫＩでは何かデザインを描いてもらう際にやはりランニングに関わっている人達に描いてもらいたいという思いがあります。そこでアルマンドにも話してみたところ、手掛けてみたいと言ってくれて。そうしてコラボレーション企画が進んでいきました。

At TANNUKI, we always want to work with people who are involved in running. So we asked to Armando, and he said he would like to give it a try. That’s how this collaboration project began.

彼にはタヌキモチーフのオリジナルグラフィックをお願いしたのですが、いくつか習作を描いてくれて、もうその習作の段階からそれ自体が作品として成立するとても素敵なグラフィック達でした。

その中から一つの画を選び、ブランドネームとサインを添えてもらう形でグラフィック化したのがこちらになります。本当に良い感じです。

We asked him to create an original graphic with a tanuki motif, and he drew several sketches, and even at the sketch stage, they were all wonderful graphics that could stand alone as works of art.

We chose one of those drawings and added the brand name and his signature to finalize this graphic.

ボディには先日発売した新型のチェスカを選びました。程よいゆとりのある、どんな場面にも馴染みの良いボディになります。上品さもあるグラフィックともとても良くマッチしています。

For the body, we chose the new Cheska model that we recently released. It’s a comfortable fit that works well in any situation. It also matches its elegant graphic very well.

アルマンドにはランニングとアートについてのメッセージをもらっています。示唆に富む内容ですのでここに紹介させていただきます。

We received a message from Armando about running and art. It’s very insightful, so we’d like to share it here.

「私がランニングを出会ったのは25年ほど前、10代前半の頃で、最初は放課後のアクティビティとして始めたのがきっかけです。その後ランニングとの関係は、人生のさまざまな段階で、何年もかけて変化してきました。私はいくつかの異なる都市に住み、かなりの数の都市を旅行したので、ランニングは新しい場所を探索するためのツールとなっていきました。新しい都市では迷子になったり、思いがけない場所を発見したりするのが好きでしたが、そこにもランニングは欠かせません。特にロサンゼルス、ロンドン、ニューヨーク、メキシコシティ、東京のような大都市では、ランニングが自分自身を驚かせる場所に連れていってくれました。私は3年前に父親になり、今では2人の娘がいます。ランニングは忙しい毎日を始める前の瞑想のような要素も持っています。走るときは様々なトピックのオーディオブックを聴いたり、周囲の音や自分の足音に集中したりしています。」

“I picked up running about 25 years ago, in my early teens, initially as an after school activity because I never really enjoyed team sports. My relationship with running has transformed over the years, during different stages of my life. I’ve lived in several different cities, and traveled to quite a few others, so running became my tool for exploring new places, always enjoying getting lost and finding unexpected places in every new city. Specially bigger ones like LA, London, NY, Mexico City or Tokyo, where you never stop surprising yourself. I became a dad 3 years ago, and have 2 daughters now, so running became a meditative ritual before starting with the full madness of my day-to-day. When I run, I rarely listen to music, most commonly I listen to audiobooks of several different topics, or just focus on the sounds of the environment and my own footsteps.”

「実のところ、アートとランニングには多くの類似点がありますが、結局のところどちらも“フロー”状態に入る必要があることに尽きると思っています。達成するのが難しいところもありますが、アートにもランにも絶対に必要なことです。私は走る時も作品を作る時も、自分の行動や体の動きを能動的にコントロールすることを諦め、無意識がハンドルを握り、支配していく様子を、まるで第三者の観察者のように観察するようにしています。」

“As a matter of fact, there are a lot of similarities, but can get boiled down to accessing a state of flow, which is quite difficult to achieve, but an absolute necessity for both activities. When I run as well as when I work, I try to loose active control of my actions and the movements of my body, and become almost lime a third person observer of the unconscious grabbing the wheel and taking hold.”
